What is Outdoor Micro Gateway ?

Outdoor Micro Gateway is a ruggedized, sturdy LoRa gateway, made to work together with Bosch Parking Sensor.

‪You can connect the Outdoor Micro Gateway to your network through ethernet or 4G.

‪Outdoor Micro Gateway are easy to configure, but only via the ethernet access point.

Exterior Appearance of the Gateway Device

Outdoor Micro Gateway (Access Point, AP)

Size: 230*200*68 mm

When setting up mobile connection (3G/4G LTE), place the SIM card into the gateway:

  1. remove the plastic cover

  2. place the standard SIM card in the SIM card slot

Configuration

Connect your computer via an ethernet cable (ensure a power of 12V / 1,5 A) to the same network as the gateway (best practice is to plug in a cable from the same splitter to your computer).

Note

Make sure to check you’re connected to the network through the ethernet cable.

  1. Download an IP scanner (eg Advanced IP scanner) to your computer

  2. Scan your environment to see which devices are in your vicinity

  3. Compare the MAC address from the physical device with the list

  4. Right click - copy paste IP into your browser (Chrome or Firefox)

  5. After the installation of the Gateway, it will automatically connect to an available Server

  6. With the assigned IP address (DHCP), the WebGUI can be accessed (Best to use Chrome or Firefox)

    1. The default username is “admin”

    2. The password is written on the back label of the device (“WEB”)

  7. You will be forwarded to the GUI of the installed Gateway, where you can configure the device

Micro Outdoor Platform: System/Administration

The firmware version is displayed in the upper-left corner after login.

  • Reset the gateway remotely to its factory settings (only do this when instructed by Spacewell)

  • Upload possible firmware versions (only do this when instructed by Spacewell). Steps see below in Troubleshooting.

  • Change the password (not mandatory)

Micro Outdoor Platform: LoRa Settings

This page is to set up LoRa configuration, and also provides Gateway ID.

Communicate the Gateway ID to your Spacewell Implementation Consultant.

  1. Fill the Gateway-Info as in the following picture:

  • Server address EU: spacewell.eu1.cloud.thethings.industries

  • Server address Americas: spacewell.nam1.cloud.thethings.industries

  • Server address Pacific: spacewell.au1.cloud.thethings.industries

2. Enable LBT Status in LBT Settings as in the following picture:

Micro Outdoor Platform: Network/WAN

Shows the current WAN status. In default, the WAN type is set to “Ethernet WAN” mode only, so 3G/4G status will not be updated. Dual-WAN mode is supported, and the you can check the “( main outgoing interface )” information to know which WAN interface is currently used as the main route.

Define to use a connection via Ethernet, 3G/4G LTE or a dual WAN (Ethernet + 3G/4G)

  • To activate the ethernet connection, specify “Ethernet WAN” : select WAN Type “DHCP Client”

  • To activate the mobile connection: specify “3G/4G LTE” :

    • select WAN Type “dual WAN (Ethernet + 3G/4G)”

    • fill the 3G/4G LTE specifications: the needed information is the APN (access point name) provided by the Sim-Vendor

Note

To activate the mobile connection, select WAN Type “dual WAN (Ethernet + 3G/4G)”

Do NOT select “3G/4G LTE”

After configuration of Micro Outdoor, make sure to connect to power.

Power is supplied to the gateway device via PoE (Power over Ethernet). You can verify whether the PoE device is working correctly by viewing the indicator light.

Power over Ethernet (PoE):

  • Output: connects to the gateway device

  • Input: connects to WAN

  • Check Input Power Requirements in the Prerequisites

When using ethernet connection:

  • either connect PoE cable directly from the gateway to the network

  • or connect PoE cable from the gateway to the adapter (connection “data + power out”). Then plug in the adapter into a power socket and connect another PoE cable from the adapter to the network.

When using mobile connection: connect PoE cable from the gateway to the adapter (connection “data + power out”). Then plug in the adapter into a power socket.

In Packet Forward > Log, you can see the device sending data.

Troubleshooting

Gateway not communicating to the Cloud

If the gateway is not communicating to the Cloud (even if you can find the device through IP scanner, and you’re able to configure the device), please contact your Spacewell Implementation Consultant.

You might need to perform a firmware upgrade:

Spacewell Implementation Consultant can obtain these files from the Spacewell Hardware team.

System will indicate when upgrade was successful

Unplug the ethernet cable from the gateway, wait 30 seconds before placing it back.

Note

Since you’ve now reset the device: any configuration done prior to this will be gone. Make sure to follow all the above configuration steps again.

Gateway visible in IP scanner, but portal page not opening in browser

You might encounter this if the WAN configuration is set to "3G/4G LTE", which means the DHCP Client of the ethernet interface will be disabled.

You’ll need a cross cable (adapter) to connect your computer directly to the Outdoor Micro.

    • IP address: 168.168.168.22;

After configuration, don’t forget to disable the "Internet communication protocol version 4(TCP/IPv4)" of your ethernet connection.
