Why apply IP whitelisting and blacklisting?

IP whitelisting and blacklisting is a simple way to ensure only trusted users can access Workplace. Typically, the IPs of your company’s network are added. After configuring this, logging in is only allowed from the configured IP addresses.

How to configure it?

  1. Click on the ‘Setup’ tile on the admin startBoard;

  2. Open the ‘Authentication’ tab;

  3. Scroll down to the ‘IP address white or black-listing tab;

  4. Click on ‘New.’ Note: after whitelisting one IP address, ALL other IP addresses are blocked directly;

  5. The fields “IP address “ and “Access” are mandatory. The other fields are optional.

Deleting an IP connection

An IP connection can be deleted again by opening it and clicking the delete symbol on the top right of the page.

Specify the IP address here. IP ranges are also allowed by using a '*'. For example: 93.14.233.* grants/ blocks access for 93.14.233.01, 93.14.233..02, 93.14.233.89, etc.

Access

Acces = yes > whitelisting
Access = no > blacklisting

Description

Description of the IP address.

Operation mode

You can allow or block access for specific servers,. , When left empty, the white-/blacklisting applies to all servers. Leaving the setting empty is standard practice. Available servers are : production, backup, test, and development.

User

Specify a user for whom the connection settings are applied. This can, for example, be used to grant a key user access to access the system from a home network.

Note

Important: when enabling IP whitelisting, please first consultant consult your Workplace consultant. The IP address of your Workplace consultant’s office location needs to be whitelisted. Otherwise, the Workplace consultant and out our Customer Support department will not able to login be unable to log in to the client environment in case of bugs, questions, and changes.

Access denied login error

When a user tries to log in from an IP address that is not whitelisted or is blacklisted, they will get an “Access denied“ error after a login attempt.
