Learning Objectives

After reading this article, you’ll be able to:

  • Select the connection values for your carrier

Depending on the network possibilities, you might have to resort to 4G to bring the data from the sensors to the Workplace Platform. The 4G SIM card needs to be plugged into the gateway and configured for that gateway.

This page provides more information on the technical information needed when Spacewell provides a 4G SIM card.

Specifications of Spacewell 4G SIM card

  • M2M cards

  • only mobile data is enabled

  • mostly only access to following server addresses is allowed / only these addresses are whitelisted:

    • Server address EU: spacewell.eu1.cloud.thethings.industries

    • Server address Americas: spacewell.nam1.cloud.thethings.industries

    • Server address Pacific: spacewell.au1.cloud.thethings.industries

APN values

All Spacewell gateways require APN values for the carrier. Without APN data, the gateway will not have a 4G connection.

Usually the APN address suffices, no need to enter username or password.

For Proximus

For Wherever SIM, use APN “wsim”

This example is Swedish carrier tele2:

In other cases, carriers usually provide APN on their websites.

MCC & MNC values

MCC and MNC values are available here: https://mcc-mnc-list.com/list

  • For Proximus: use MCC 206, MNC 01

  • For Wherever SIM, use MCC 295, MNC 05 (latest information available here)

Troubleshooting

How to check if my SIM card is enabled?

After configuration, make sure to remove all PoE cables etc, and let your Spacewell Consultant confirm data reception on /wiki/spaces/KB/pages/492072.

Some gateways provide an indication of Network connection in the configuration portal. Eg below image says “Network Status: Disconnected”. From experience: when the Network Status says Disconnected, the SIM card is not getting online.

  1. Check the configuration (APN, MCC/MNC where needed)

    1. Check the PIN number. Since it’s not visible while typing, we suggest to type it in notepad or an empty e-mail and copy/paste into the PIN field

  2. If that does not solve the issue, you might want to consider placing the SIM card in your mobile phone

    1. Verify if PIN is enabled

    2. Verify if Mobile Data is enabled

    3. Verify if the APN mentioned on your phone corresponds with the information provided on this page

    4. Make sure to turn off your WiFi before testing access to one of our server addresses (mentioned above)
