Learning Objectives

After reading this article, you’ll be able to:

  • Tell what meters and meter readings are.

  • Add a meter to a property.

  • Fill in a meter reading.

  • Generate an automatic meter reading.


What is a meter?

Meter readings are used to gain insight into energy consumption and are registered on property level. The readings can be generated automatically depending on the setting meter.

  1. Open a property. In this example, we have opened the location Arnhem.

  2. You will see a tab called Meters > click on the tab to open it.

3. In the tab, you will see which meters are related to the property.  To create a new meter, press the button “New.” It will open up the following screen with four tabs: General, Meter Readings, Charts, and Generate automatically.

4. Fill in the relevant general info to create a meter and press “Save and return.”

Here you can fill in the general information regarding the meter. For example, the initial/starting value of the meter, the article number, and the meter type.

Is the ‘Meter type’ dropdown is empty? In this case a meter type has not yet been created. Hover over the field for instruction on how to create a meter type. For more details see the part about adding energy meters on the Catalog itemsarticle.

The tab “Meter Readings”

Shows the filled-in meter readings and option to create new readings. To do this, press the button “New” and fill in the new value of the meter.

You have 3 options when you fill in a reading:

  1. Actual: the actual reading on the meter

  2. Estimated: A calculated/estimated guess what the reading will be filled in by the meter reading

  3. Interpolated: Interpolation is the process of estimating unknown values that fall between known values.

The tab “Generate Automatically”

Under this tab, you can schedule meter readings with different intervals and when they need to be created. For example you can create a daily or a weekly meter reading. This will be appear in the “Meterreadings to be filled in” option in the menu under “Properties.”

New meter readings are created in the night before the meter reading needs to be executed.

Automatically generated meter readings

If automatically generated meter readings are available, you will find them on your “Tasks” list on your startBoard or here:

  1. In the menu under “Properties”

  2. menu option “Meterreadings to be filled in”

  3. Enter the Property to which the meter belongs (you can also leave this empty to view all empty generated meter readings)

  4. click ‘Search’

  5. In the example below only one Meter Reading is found

  6. You can fill in the new value(s) directly in this screen > click 'OK' to save. Alternatively you can open the meter reading by clicking the blue hyperlink (the date/ time)

Manually adding a new meter reading

In some cases you need a extra reading next to the automated or you don`t have automated generated readings and only need to submit a reading occasionally. To manually add a meter reading, follow the next steps.

  1. Open the desired property

  2. Open the tab ‘Meters’

  3. Open the meter for which you want to add a new reading

  4. Press the + button in the include at the bottom.
