Why apply IP whitelisting and blacklisting?
IP whitelisting and blacklisting is a simple way to ensure that only trusted users can acces Workplace. After configuring this, logging in is only allowed from the configured IP addresses. Typically, the IPs of your companies network are added.
How to configure?
Click on the ‘Setup’ tile on the admin startBoard;
Open the ‘Authentication’ tab;
Scroll down to the ‘IP address white or black-listing' tab;
Click on ‘New’, Note: after whitelisting one IP address ALL other IP adressen are blocked directly;
The fields “IP address “ and “Access” are mandatory. The other fields are optional.
Deleting an IP connection
A IP connection can be deleted again by: opening it and clicking on the delete symbol on the top right of the page.
Setting | Description |
---|---|
IP address | Specify the IP address here. IP ranges are also allowed by using a '*'. For example: 93.14.233.* grants/ blocks access for 93.14.233.01, 93.14.233..02, 93.14.233.89, etc. |
Access | Acces = yes > whitelisting |
From/ To | Fill in when the access restriction applies for a specific time periode. |
Description | Description of the IP address. |
Operation mode | You can allow or block access for specific servers. When left empty the white-/blacklisting applies to all servers. Leaving the setting empty is common practice. Available servers are: production, backup, test, development. |
User | Specify a user for whom the connection settings applied. This can, for example, be used to grant a key user to access the system from a home network. |
Important: when enabling IP whitelisting, please first consultant your Workplace consultant. The IP address of your Workplace consultant’s office location needs to be whitelisted. Otherwise the Workplace consultant and out Customer Support department will not able to login to the client environment in case of bugs, questions, and changes.
Access denied login error
When a user tries to login from an IP address that is not whitelisted or is blacklisted, they will get an “Access denied“ error after a login attempt.
