  • Understand how a Parking Lot Sensor works

  • Interpret how Parking Lot Sensor data shows up on Workplace touchpoints

How does a Bosch PLS sensor work?

Spacewell Bosch PLS sensors uses two independent sensor principles: magnetometer and radar.

Magnetometers detect vehicles by measuring changes in the ambient magnetic field around them. They are perfect for outdoor applications with extreme weather demands.

Radar technology detects moving or stationary (large and predictable) targets. It will function regardless of weather conditions.

As soon as the sensor detects movement in combination with a change of in the ambient magnetic field, the sensor is triggered and a signal is sent to Spacewell Workplace, indicating that this location is now occupied.

Similarly, when the vehicle leaves the parking spot, the movement is detected by the sensor and a message is send to Spacewell Workplace, indicating that this location is now available.

Visit Quality Assurance to understand how meticulous we are in our checks at the end of a project, to make sure that false-positives (the sensor being triggered but the parking space is not occupied) or false-negatives (the sensor not picking up on a car parking in that spot) are kept to a minimum.

How is Bosch PLS sensor data reflected in Workplace Live Views?

From the above explanation, we know a Bosch sensor is triggered when a vehicle drives over it, and the signal goes up immediately, but only goes down after vehicle departure:

  • So as soon as occupancy is detected, a signal is send to the Workplace Platform, which will reflect in Workplace touchpoints' floorplans in near-real time: the location occupancy color goes from GREEN to RED almost instantly

  • Because of the Decay configuration options for Occupancy in Workplace platform (see below), we cannot visualize the real parking duration.

Decay Configuration options

The occupancy decay in the Workplace platform is to indicate that the probability that the location is still occupied is lowering.

In Workplace back-end Studio configuration, you can indicate the icon and set the decay timer per category.

How does this reflect in Parking Monitor Dashboard?

In the Parking Monitor Dashboard, the data from the sensor is used to indicate if a parking spot was occupied from moment X to moment Y.
