Learning Objectives
After reading this article, you’ll be able to:
Understand the logic behind Sensor Health
Identify different Health status for different types of sensors
Check Sensor Health for your sensors
Sensor Health is derived from the last communication from the sensor to the Workplace Platform.
The communication can be a sensor value or a heartbeat.
Since every type of device has its own heartbeat frequency, the health of the device is evaluated per sensor type. Below table shows the details of the “health thresholds” per device type:
❤ heartbeat | Green | Yellow | Red | |
Default | <2D | 5D | >7D | |
Tabs | 1h | <2h | 1D | >2D |
Tabs door&window | 6h | |||
Bosch | 1D (ack) | <1D1h | 2D | >3D |
VergeSense | 1h | <2D | 5D | >7D |
Pointgrab, | 15-60s | <5m | <1h | >1h |
Plenom Status Lights | 1h | <2h | 1D | >2D |
Ascoel | 1D | <2D | 5D | >7D |
Where can you check Sensor Health?
Workplace Back-end Studio includes different Sensor Health indicators (described on this page):
It’s also possible to configure Health Notifications (e-mails) for sensors in To Check or Offline status. More information on Set up Notifications for Sensor Health
KPI Health Cards for a global overview
Login with your credentials
Choose either Spaces or Devices, to see the KPI Health Cards at the top
In Spaces, select a location to view Health Cards for the relevant location
In Devices, KPI Health Cards for the whole environment are shown. Select a card to filter the overview below: it will only show devices with that status.
It’s not possible to take an export of the filtered overview (Devices export always includes ALL devices), but using Health Notifications, the e-mail includes an excel attachment containing only devices in To Check or Offline status. More information on Set up Notifications for Sensor Health
Health Cards
Unlinked devices: shows how many devices are set up for this tenant but not linked to a location
Note |
---|
If a sensor is not linked to a location, no data will be available for this sensor in Workplace |
Linked devices: shows how many devices are linked to the tenant, or (if a location has been selected) to the selected location
Live devices: shows how many devices regularly communicate with the Workplace platform
Devices to check: shows how many devices in the selected location have difficulty reaching the Workplace platform (see Sensor Health Logic above)
Offline Devices: shows how many devices in the selected location are not connecting to the Workplace platform (see Sensor Health Logic above)
Location hierarchy & floor plan to zoom in on problematic locations
In Studio Spaces, Sensor Health is communicated in multiple places, where icons and colors indicate the most severe status of all the sensors linked to that location.
Login with your credentials
Choose Spaces
Location Hierarchy
In the location hierarchy, an icon next to the level indicates the most severe status of all the sensors linked to that location.
In above example: there are multiple sensors in “To Check” Status and also one in “Offline” status on the selected First floor. The icon next to “First floor” (and next to the relevant building and site) turns red to reflect the most severe status of all the sensors linked to that location (hierarchy).
To understand better which sensor needs more attention, you can select the location in the hierarchy, in the locations list, devices list or on the floor plan.
Info |
---|
The statuses are fetched in the moment the page is loaded, and then a background process retrieves the actual values every 15 minutes (after Studio is opened). So while drilling down to see sensor data on the historical data section of every separate sensor, where data from the last minutes might be shown, the status can differ from the Location hierarchy status if not refreshed yet through the background status update. |
Floor plan
If you drill down to a floor level in the location hierarchy, you can select Floor plan visualization to see these values on the floor plan. If you want to drill down even more: Select "view by" (type).
The colors reflect the most severe status of all the sensors linked to that location.
In above example: two locations are colored yellow, so there are sensors in “To Check” Status in these locations (that might also have other sensors linked, that are in Online status, or multiple in To Check), and one location is colored red, so there are sensors in “Offline” status in that location (that might also have other sensors linked, that are in Online or To Check status, or multiple can be Offline).
Floor plan legend
green/active/online: sensor is actively sending data to the Workplace Platform
orange/to check: sensor is not able to always reach a hub/data is not coming in regularly into the Workplace Platform*
red/bad/offline: the Workplace Platform is not receiving data from the sensor
if it says "never": could be sensor ID is not correct (check for typos)
white: there is no sensor linked to this location
* Might be due to local issues with a hub, where sensors are able to reach hubs that are further away (but not always). In order to find out more, check https://spacewell.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/492245/Sensor+connectivity+guide
If more than 1 sensor is linked to a location (for example a motion sensor and a comfort sensor placed in the same meeting room), Health Monitor will indicate the most severe status of all the sensors linked to that location.
The location might be colored red because 1 of multiple sensors linked to this location is not sending data anymore.
Possible actions on the floor plan:
mouse-over on location contains following information, for all sensors linked to this room
sensor source (what kind of sensor)
sensor channel (pir, headcount, humidity, temperature, ...)
sensor ID
Last seen: "x minutes/hours/days ago"
clicking on the location brings you to the Location Detail page , where filter is set to this location. For more information see Sensor Management
Next actions for Offline or To Check Devices
Check out Sensor troubleshooting guide to figure out what’s wrong with your devices.
