Learning Objectives

After reading this article, you’ll be able to:

  • Prepare your environment to start using Milesight

  • Install Milesight

  • Verify correct installation of MilesightRead the information on the Milesight CO2 E-Ink display

  • Troubleshoot in case of issues

Milesight comfort sensors gather data for Humidity + CO2 + Temperature.

Find here the checklist for installation: Checklist hardware on-site visit/installation.

Prerequisite: Gateway

Milesight sensors connect over the LoRa network. Make sure you install your LoRa hub before installing the sensors (check out LoRa Gateways / Hubs installation guides for more information).

Sensor configuration

All sensor settings can be configured via a smartphone application with NFC (Near Field Communication)

Make sure to use a NFC supported mobile phone and follow below steps:

Remove the back panel of the sensor with a small screwdriver

.

Info

Keep the back panel and the sensor together, since the sensor ID is indicated on the back panel!

  1. Install the batteries that come with the device.

    1. Do not reverse the direction of batteries when installing.

    Image Removed

Note

The device can only be powered by ER14505 Li-SOCl2 batteries (not alkaline batteries). Using batteries other than the ones provided may result in loss of performance and battery life, and also damage to the device. Dispose of properly, observing environmental protection rules.

  1. Press and hold the power button (on the back of the device) for more than 3 seconds to power up

Note

Don’t press longer than 10 seconds or the device will reset.

  1. Download and install “Milesight ToolBox” App from Google Play or Apple App Store.

  2. Enable NFC on the smartphone and launch Milesight ToolBox app.

  1. Hold the smartphone with NFC area to the Milesight CO2 sensor to read the device information. Basic information and settings of the device will be shown on ToolBox App if it’s recognized successfully.

Info

Make sure the reading completes 100% to make sure you’re working on the correct device.

You can read and configure the device by tapping the Read/Write device on the App.

Info
  1. Ensure the correct placement location of smartphone NFC area compared to the device.

  2. It’s recommended to take off the phone case for optimal NFC use.

  3. If the smartphone fails to read/write configurations via NFC, remove the phone and try again.

Calibration

Go to Settings (header) > Calibration settings to calibrate the CO2 value.

Info

Take these actions in fresh air, because the calibration needs to happen outside.

  1. Make sure Auto Background Calibration value is turned on.

  2. Select Manual Calibration

  3. Confirm the pop-up asking to start calibration

  4. The app will prompt you to scan the device again

  5. Once successful, you will get a message

  6. As soon as the app confirms manual calibration ready, place the device outdoors for minimum 20 minutes

Info

On the start screen of the app, it will indicate the device ID of the device you started with, but the app allows you to start calibration on other devices too!

If you are configuring multiple devices at the same time, you can just repeat the calibration steps with all the devices, as long as all of them are placed outdoors afterward.

Sensor Installation

Preparation

Check if locations apply to prerequisites

  • It is recommended to install at least 1.5 m high from floor level

  • Do not mount the device where the temperature is below/above operating range and
    temperature varies greatly.

  • Stay far away from any heat source or cold source like oven or sunlight, refrigerators or other cold sources, liquids and extreme temperature change.

  • Do not mount the device close to where airflow varies greatly like windows, vent, fan and air
    conditioner.

  • Do not mount the device upside down.

  • Do not place the device right to the window or door. If you have to, you’d better pull the
    curtain.

Indicate on the Prepare your sensor plan where to place all sensors, incl. where the sensor placement deviates from this normal procedure.

Installation

  1. Take a configured device

Info

Remember to write down the sensor ID next to the location ID before the next step.

  1. Follow the steps described below, depending on the method: with tape or with screws:

Method 1: Using Tape

  1. Fix the bottom of the device to the rear cover with the theft-deterring screw.

  2. Paste the 3M double-sided tape to the back of the device, then tear the other side and place it on a flat surface.

Image Removed

Method 2: Using Screws

  1. Remove the rear cover of the device

  2. Screw the wall plugs into the wall and fix the rear cover with screws on it, then install the sensor device.

  3. Fix the bottom of the device to the rear cover with the theft-deterring screw.

Note

This device must not be placed near any louver, air vent, or other places exposed to fresh air (e.g., windows, door openings). Such placement will give false CO2 values.

Deploy sensors in Workplace Platform

On the back panel of the sensor, you will find the Device ID (format 24E124725D1xxxxx). This is the ID to use to assign the device to your tenant and do the location mapping in Studio.

Add New Device in Studio

  1. Go to your environment (https://studio.cobundu.com ) and log in

  2. Select the location, where you can manually add a sensor via "Add New Device"

Image Removed

Manually add device through location > devices > new: location is filled in.

‪Select Device Type "Milesight CO2". This will automatically link the device channel.

Enter Device ID as serial-number with all capitals and including the dashes (format 24-E1-24-72-5D-1x-xx-xx).

Enter a meaningful Device Name (eg customer_floor number_area).

Select a Location from the location tree if this is already known (automatically filled in if location was selected before adding new device).

Only applicable for Comfort sensors: Next to the already selected (main) Room or Workplace, you can visualize incoming comfort data on other, Linked Locations. Imagine having 1 comfort sensor in an open office space and you want to visualize this data on all 8 workplaces in that space: Linked Location needs to contain all 8 workplaces. (More information on Linked Locations: Live floorplan settings)

Selecting the correct Device Type "Milesight CO2" should automatically set the Sensor Types and Channels to "Temperature, Humidity and CO2" (see Advanced).

For more information on how to add multiple new devices to Studio, check out Configure devices (add, remove, import/export).

Quality Assurance

Next step is the Quality Assurance to make sure that the whole installation and configuration of your Milesight comfort sensor was a success.

Image Removed

On the live floorplans (for example in touchpoints Workplace web (Go) and The Workplace App), as well as in Workplace back-end Studio’s Sensor Management, you should see values for each sensor that is linked to a location.

With a thermometer, you can benchmark the (temperature) values from the sensor. Admittedly, humidity is more difficult to check.

The screenshots in this chapter visualize the results on Live Floorplan > View Temperature/Humidity/Comfort/... (depending on the kind of sensor installed) and in Studio’s Sensor Management.
