After reading this article, you’ll be able to:

  • How to navigate Qlik, the dashboard app

Pages setup: structure and navigation

A Dashboard contains multiple underlying sheets

There is just too much information to show in one single page. Therefore, the different topics are grouped together in sheets.

For example the Space monitor contains 6 sheets of information, depending on the available data (“Utilization Analysis” will only show up if this type of data is measured, “Reservations vs Occupancy” will only show up if reservations are enabled in Workplace).

 Navigation between Dashboard sheets

To navigate between the different sheets,

  • use the Navigation buttons to jump from sheet to sheet

  • use the Navigation drop down to select a specific sheet

Filters & KPIs

 Where to find Filters

Dashboards open with default, predefined filters in the top Filter selection. You can change or remove these filters, for example to zoom in one 1 particular week or 1 particular business day:

  • quick filter change: select the filter in the top Filter selection, the current selection will open in a drop-down menu: you can now select more or different values. Don’t forget to confirm your selection.

  • remove filter: select the X next to the relevant filter in the top Filter selection.

You can use the filter pane on the left to make selections on the fly, like zooming in on particular floor or category. Each selection shows as an extra filter button in the top Filter selection.

You can hit the “Reset View” button to return to the default bookmarks (landing page of the dashboard)

What are associative filters?

Any previously made selection has an effect on the other filters. In this example,

  • the filter in white is in bound with the (other, already selected) filter criteria

  • the filter in grey is outside of the already selected filter criteria. They remain clickable: When selecting one of these grey items, you’re effectively discarding any other set filters. In other words: selecting a grey filter (detailing parameters that are not applicable to the results of the already selected filters) will remove all selected filters and let you begin a new filter set

image-20240319-125014.png

Associative behavior is the way qliksense binds all charts and selections together, allowing you do filter in any direction at any point in time.

 Are filters public or personal?

Filter settings are personal to the logged in user.

Zooming in on a graph or timeline to set a filter

A selection in the dashboard or on a graph/timeline will influence filter settings on the whole dashboard (will be added to the top Filter selection):

  • On the floor plan, select any location (you can select multiple but only the first will be highlighted)

  • On any graph, select a data point / space category / location to select a specific data filter

    • if you want to select multiple locations on the floor plan: only the first one will light up

  • On any timeline, drag & drop (in the time description, not in the graph itself) to select a specific time period

Calendar filter (optional, needs to be configured separately)

Exempt days (calendar filter) are periods that you want to exclude from regular data visualizations, (for example if the office was closed for certain periods during Covid-19 pandemic) as the (radically different) data from these periods might interfere with the nominal values presented in the dashboard.

  • Distinguish “regular days” from “excluded days”

  • Option to exclude particular days or day ranges from the calendar

  • Breaks up the calendar in several periods

  • “Regular days” interleaved with “exempt days”

image-20240319-093627.png

Configuration

  • 0, 1 or # calendar exempt ranges can be defined (cannot be done by Spacewell Consultant; needs to be requested)

  • By default, NO ranges are defined

  • calendar exempt range = 1 or # executive days

  • Exempt ranges cannot overlap !

How to use the Date picker?

image-20240319-091324.png

How to work with dates: larger periods

Do not manually enter dates, this might result in unwanted behavior

image-20240319-092724.png

How to work with dates: predefined periods

All selections you make are always on top of your current other filter criteria, if applicable (e.g. Mon-Fri ..)

  • Last 7 days: calculated from “today - 1 date” (yesterday) backwards

  • Last 30 days: selects all 30 days from “today - 1 date” (yesterday) backwards

  • This month: all dates from the 1st of the month till current date - 1

  • Last month: all data from the previous month

Dashboard Tips & Tricks

How to use whisker box graphs?

Example of 3 work spaces on an hourly base:

  • In 25% of measurements, there is data under the box

  • The box represents 50% of the measurements. They dont represent the highest, nor the lowest measurements

  • A long box means a big spread of data (low predictability)

  • In a perfect world, the box should be between the Spacewell suggested % in the dashboards

How to get the most out of trendline graphs?

You might only see a small portion of data in the graph compared to the whole selected period. You can recognize this by the highlighted part in the graph underneath.

  • To move forward or backward, simply scroll through the big graph or select a portion in the smaller one.

  • In the example below: the large graph is only showing us data on 2 days (looking at the peaks in the smaller graph: Tuesday and Wednesday) from the last week in our selected period.

To get the most out of the trendline, open the graph on full screen using the expand button

  • You’ll be able to identify the different moments in time better

  • You can switch between hourly, daily, weekly views

 How to use bookmarks?

You can now also save your filter selections by creating your own bookmarks

  • Make filter selection(s) and create a bookmark on that snapshot view Optionally you can save the sheet location in the bookmark (default: ON)

  • At any time during the same or a next dashboard session, you can click on the bookmark to return to your saved view

All bookmarks (default (public) and own) are available under the bookmark button

  • Your own bookmarks are shared between your colleague users of the dashboard

  • Bookmarks are particular to one dashboard (For example, bookmarks defined in Space Monitor will not be available in Comfort Monitor)

How to expand a chart or graph to see more details?
  • in Firefox/Internet Explorer/Chrome: As you hoover over a graph, you will see the “full screen button” appear in the top right corner

  • in Edge: right click in the top right corner to see the “full screen button” appear

Click on the “full screen button” to expand that window. This allows a closer look at the graph and exposes the legend.

In some particular cases, the legend is hidden and only visible in full screen mode. For others, please check tip “How to access the legend with the axes names of a chart?”

Explore a chart by selecting the “Exploration menu”:

  • in Firefox/Internet Explorer/Chrome: As you hoover over a graph, select the slider menu

  • in Edge: right click in the top right corner, select the slider menu

The graph or chart will open in full screen, and on the right hand side an extra menu will open providing options to tweak the charts a little to your need (change sorting etc). Sometimes, the alternative dimensions do not show in small views. By enlarging or exploring the chart it’s possible to see and select these as well.

How to access the legend with the axes names of a chart?

See the legend with the names of the axes of chart (without going to full-screen mode), when using screen display resolution at 100%

Untitled-20240319-082356.png

There are only a few exceptions where this instruction does not work: in below depicted type of charts with a double border, due to the nesting of charts (dashboard internals), the legend is falling off the chart to the right (Qlik behavior)

 How to export data?
  1. Right click

  2. Select the file type you want the export to be

  3. The export will be created and provisioned to you for download. Click the link to download the file.

  4. Check your Download folder for the file.

image-20240319-133025.png

Exports only hold those elements related to the chart you are viewing. For this reason, other version tables were added.

Check FAQ on Dashboards if only part of the graph is visible in your export.

Download sheet as pdf

Instead of downloading a particular chart, also the full sheet content can be downloaded in a pdf report.

Mind that only the sheet body (selected content resulting from filters) is downloaded, not the filter pane.

Floor plans will not be part of the report, some chart data may also be missing.

Embed sheet

Not supported.

Touch screen mode

By default all dashboards can be navigated from touch screens. This toggle allows to turn off touch screen mode, as there may be some UX/UI differences with the normal mode.
