Tape placement

For sensor installation (motion, comfort, door counter), we advise using double sided tape.

At Spacewell, we always use double sided tape and have made good experiences with 3M VHB Tape and TENTA tape for the motion sensors. These tapes are strong and work for all the different types of sensors.
We estimate that you use 3-5cm per sensor, and 6cm for a door counter (2 parts for 1 sensor). So, you can probably hang roughly 70-100 sensors per roll (both 3M VHB Tape and TENTA tape come on 3m rolls).

Best practices: 

  • Press the tape in the crook of the sensor to ensure good adhesion / bigger surface area
  • The more tape you use, the better the adherence. From this perspective, the TENTA tape (2,5cm wide) is a bit better than the 3M WHB tape (1,9cm wide)

  

Sensor Mapping

Some projects include HUGE amounts of sensors - having the installer paste the stickers-with-sensor-ID on the sensor plan and manually taking it from there might be very time consuming.
If your project has more than 50 or 100 sensors, you might consider using the following template:  Sensor mapping template.xlsx

  1. Save this file locally
  2. Location Master data
    1. Export location master data from IWMS.
    2. Use this location master data to fill in tab ROOMS of this file.
    3. We suggest you keep data that is relevant for your customer / installation team and therefore suggest you include location references, floor and building references, classification of the room
    4. Leave columns "Sensor" and "OK?" as-is for now.
  3. Sensor IDs relevant for this project
    1. Check Tabs Inventory files on Confluence and export the valid sensor IDs (based on the communicated box number / cartonID).
    2. Import relevant sensor IDs to column C "Sensor IDs" on tab SENSOR IDS of this file.
    3. In doing so, column A "last 4 digits" will show the last 4 digits of the sensor IDs provided in column C.
  4. Map Sensor ID with location to get immediate feedback if possible ID
    1. Upon installation, fill in the last 4 digits of the sensor ID into column "Sensor ID" in the ROOMS tab.
      - If these 4 last digits are part of the available sensor list, they will appear in the column "OK?"
      - If these 4 last digits are not part of the available sensor list, the column "OK?" will state "NA"
      - If these 4 last digits are part of the available sensor list, but are already referenced somewhere in this mapping list, the column "OK?" will turn red
  5. Get the full sensor ID
    1. Get the full sensor ID from making a vlookup on the Sensor ID tab
  6. Import in Studio
    1. Copy the Location IDs and the Sensor IDs into the sensor import xls in Studio Sensor Devices

Remove or exchange tabs batteries

When replacing a battery (or even placing the same battery again), wait for at least 3h between removal and replacement of the battery to make sure that the capacitor will deplete (ie there is no left-over "power" inside the sensor).
Make sure that hubs are live when performing this action, so that the sensor (that has just found power again) can easily connect to the hub without depletion of the battery.
