  • Work with test emails in backup/test servers

What is email testing

The setting to turn on email testing is used in backup/test environments to verify emails that are send out in workflows or using functions. In this way we can verify templates and check parameters. The reason we have this setting is because emails are not sent out in testing/backup servers by default and can therefor not be checked or analysed. In the production environment emails are always sent out to the relevant contacts, which then makes it hard to test templates because they are sent out immediately and in the live data.

Keep in mind: While most emails are not sent out in backup/test servers by default, emails regarding passwords will ALWAYS be sent out. Do not use these emails for testing.

So, testing emails is only possible in backup or test servers (to find out how to navigate to your environment’s backup/test server go to How to login). In the pictures below we can see that the testing settings are not present in the production environment (picture on the right).

Where to find the setting

To find email testing settings:

  1. Navigate to settings on the starboard (or via the navigationmenu → Admin → Setup).

  2. Navigate to the email tab.

The settings that are used are:

Name

Description

Testing is enabled

If set to yes, emails will be send out in the backup/test environment you are in.

End time of testing

The end time for test mails, after this time no more emails will be sent. If no time is specified no emails will be sent.

Recipient for testing

The single recipient that will receive all mails. Usually you use your own contact for this.

All these settings need to be filled in to be able to test correctly.

How to use email testing

After filling in all the mandatory settings, emails will be send out to the recipient whenever an email within a workflow/function is created.

The email will contain [AXXERION-TESTMAIL] indicating that the email is sent out as a test.
