Why use multiple sessions

When using an (admin) partner user, you’re allowed to login more than once with the same credentials. This is conveniënt when you’re working allong side your colleague. But also when making changes to an environment. Multi login will than allow you make changes as an admin and at the same time switch to a user to view the effect of the changes you just made.

Session merge

When you want to log into Workplace multiple times, you will need to login using different sessions to prevent session merge. A session merge will occur when you open Workplace a second time with the same browser.

A session merge basically means that session data from one browser tab is transferred to another session. This means that if you are logged into Workplace twice, unexpected thinks will happen, for example:

  • One or both screens will become unresponsive;

  • Functionalities no longer work as expected (e.g. the property search is broken);

  • Pressing ‘Ok’ on the user search page might lead you to the organization searchpage (because that’s the page you where visiting in your other browser tab).

Session merge is recognized by the symptoms described above. When you navigate to a Workplace URL and you’re logged in without even seeing the login screen, the chance is big its a session merge as well.

How to log in using different sessions

Depending on your browser different solution exist for using multiple sessions. You can search the web for the best solution for your situation. Below we share our best practice experience

Multi session tool (best solution)

Using a multi session tool is the preferred way to log into Workplace multiple times. We have good experience with Chrome SessionBox, but you can use any multi session tool you like.

Note: after using SessionBox for a while it could be that you need to purchase a license to keep using this plugin.

Create additional profiles in Chrome (a good second)

Chrome allows you to create multiple profiles. In each profile you can open the chrome browser which will than be considered a separate session. To create multiple profile search the web with the keywords “multiple profile chrome“. This will provide you with an instruction on how to create profiles in Chrome.

Use different browsers (least preferred)

You can use different browsers and open Workplace once in each browser. This is the least preferred method.
