  • Work with test emails in backup/test servers

What is email testing

The setting to turn on email testing is used in backup/test environments to verify emails that are send out in workflows or through functions. Using this functionality we can verify templates and check parameters. The reason we have this setting is because emails are not sent out in testing/backup servers by default and can therefore not be checked or analysed.
In the production environment on the contrary, emails are always sent out to the relevant contacts which is not what you want when testing a new/ altered template.

Beware: Whilst emails are never sent in the backup/test environment, emails regarding passwords will ALWAYS be sent out.

Enabling sending emails on Backup or Test

To find email testing settings:

  1. Navigate to the backup or test environment. Read the Infrastructure basics article for more information on logging into these environments.

  2. Press the ‘Client settings’ button on the starboard.

  3. Navigate to the Email tab.

All three settings in the table below need to be filled in to enable email testing.

Name

Description

Testing is enabled

If set to yes, emails will be send out in the backup/test environment you are in.

End time of testing

The end time for test mails, after this time no more emails will be sent. If no time is specified no emails will be sent.

Recipient for testing

The single recipient that will receive all mails. Usually you use your own contact for this.

Testing emails is only possible in backup or test servers. To find out how to navigate to your environment’s backup/test server go to How to login.

How to use email testing?

  • After filling in all the mandatory settings, all emails will be send out to the 'Recipient for testing'.

  • The email that you receive contains [AXXERION-TESTMAIL] in the title indicating that it concerns a test mail.

  • If you want to test a (workflow) email, simply follow the process, same as you would on production. For example, create, submit, and approve a reservation. All emails send from this workflow will end up in the email registered on the contact of the system admin you are using.
