Device Control for QBIC

Device Control for QBIC

Difficulty: expert

Learning Objectives

After reading this article, you’ll be able to:

  • Configure the Kiosk App through Device Control to run on a Qbic meeting room display

This manual is applicable for QBIC meeting room devices and QBIC BOX PCs

Step 1 - Take your QBIC device and your PC

  1. You’ll need both a Qbic device + a PC

  2. Both devices should be on the same network

  3. You should see the screen below on your Qbic device (the Content URL is empty at first):

    1. Wi-Fi Status

    2. QBIC IP address is listed

ℹ️ To get your Qbic device ready and connected, consult the Hardware installation (Qbic)

Note: Only relevant if you are still running a Kiosk App that is not linked to Device Control.
ℹ️ This step applies to any type of device (Qbic or other brands)

Exit the app

Find the app on the device

Uninstall the app

  1. Tap 10x on the logo

  2. Enter the device password

  3. Select ‘Exit’

  1. For Qbic, select ‘Settings'

  2. go to ' Advanced settings’

  3. Select ' apps'

  1. Select the ' kiosk' app

  2. Select ‘uninstall’

Step 2 - Find the QBIC device through your PC

Open Device Control in your browser and choose ' kiosk' when you see this pop-up window

We recommend using Chrome/Edge as browser on your laptop for this step

You should see this screen after logging in.

  1. Click the lock button by the URL

  2. Click on “Site Settings”

  3. Navigate to “Insecure Content”

  4. Select “Allow”

Note:

Scanning is only possible on Chrome or Edge

This is required to scan devices in an IP range.

This setting is only applied to the current website, not all sites you visit.

You can reverse this after you have finished Step 3

  1. Go to the Qbic Devices Tab on the Device Control platform

  2. Enter an IP range (based on the IP shown on the Qbic Settings Tile in Step 1)

  3. Press scan and wait for your device to show up

Step 3 - Install & Launch the app

Step 4 - Configure the app

For Room displays, see Installing the Room Display app

For Kiosks, see Installing the Kiosk app on a QBIC device

Good to know

In step 3 (“Install & Launch the app”) > action 6 (“Choose “App” and then select the Option: Remote Upgrade XML in combination with Spacewell Kiosk”), Spacewell of course explains how to install the Spacewell Kiosk app. But it’s also possible to push a URL to the device, for example if you want to run a video on a visitor day or a company party. To do this, choose “Website URL” and provide a valid Website URL.

However, if your event is over and you want to launch the Kiosk app again, it will not be reloaded because the device is already configured with the content URL. As a result, the content from the previously configured URL remains visible, even if the XML file contains a different content URL. The issue arises because the content URL is not being updated in the back-end, leading to no changes on the display.

This happens because the app is already installed. To resolve this issue:

  1. Open the QBIC Remote Configuration Center

  2. Enter IP addresses and scan the network (just as you would when using Spacewell Device Control > QBIC devices)

  3. Open “Settings” accordion

  4. Check the box in front of “Content URL” and fill in “fm.mcs.ckv1t1/kiosk.SplashScreen” in the field

  5. Select “Start Configuration” button at the bottom of the page

Alternatively, set an empty URL from the remote and then manually select the app on the device.
