PointGrab installation
Difficulty: expert
Learning Objectives
After reading this article, you’ll be able to:
Install PointGrab devices, using PoE or WiFi
Make sure to check PointGrab hardware and network requirements prior to sensor installation.
Create a sensor plan before going on site, so that all parties are aligned on PointGrab installation location.
Physically installing PointGrab™ sensor devices
After defining the sensor layout with your Spacewell Consultant, you'll need to install the physical CogniPoint™ sensor devices on the ceiling. The sensor layout that you defined determines the location, height and view direction of the sensors, and you must make sure that you install the sensor devices according to the defined specifications.
How to keep track of installation location per device? Best practice is to tape the sticker on the Sensor Plan or take note of the sensor ID (number starting with 4000…) in an excel at the place of installation.
To physically install a CogniPoint™ sensor, use following steps.
Option 1: Powered + connected to the network using Power over Ethernet
Option 2 and 3: Powered using “DC power” or PoE + connected to the network using WiFi

Sensors expect ethernet first but are configured to WiFi by applying below script
Preparation steps (can be done beforehand)
You will need:
WiFi-network name + password (password is not saved, but we generate a PSK = hashed combination of password + network)
Advanced IP scanner (free software)
Power for the PointGrab, either PoE-injector or DC power (12-24V power)
Pointgrab version 1 (shipped with white package) DC Input: Connector/cable type = 2x Terminal Connector, 12-22AWG (Wire gauge 1.5mm2 / 15AWG); Power rating: 12V-24V
Pointgrab version 2 (new package design is colored red; serial number that starts from 3000040) DC Input: Connector/cable type = USB-C; Power rating: 5V
Router or similar to connect the laptop and PointGrab to the same network + PoW injector or external DC power for the PointGrab sensor

Quality Assurance
Without the sensor being configured in the Pointgrab and Workplace Platform, there is not much you can check.
If the sensor has already been added to the Pointgrab Platform, Pointgrab connection lights should not be blinking or giving any color. If there is a light, check PointGrab troubleshooting.
Next steps
After the sensor installation, your Spacewell Implementation Consultant will follow the PointGrab configuration guide, and then will follow the Quality Assurance Occupancy and Utilization Sensorinstructions.
In case you encounter any issue with your devices, don’t hesitate to check PointGrab troubleshooting.
