After reading this article, you’ll be able to:

  • install Tabs motion sensors at workplaces

Prerequisites

Motion sensors connect over the LoRa network. Make sure you install your LoRa hub before installing the sensors (check out LoRa Gateways / Hubs installation guides for more information).

Definition “normal table/desk” vs “height adjustable table/desk”

  • a normal table/desk height is fixed between 60-80 cm high. An end-user cannot change the height of this kind of table. (It might be possible to change the height by taking the table apart and reconstructing it again, but that’s not a daily event. )

  • a height adjustable table’s height is not fixed: an end-user can decide (and change his mind multiple times during the day) to use the table in a seated or upright position. (Usually, there are up/down-buttons linked to a motor.)

Sensor installation

If the situation you are facing deviates from these instructions/prerequisites, please contact Spacewell. Pictures / Drawings say more than a 1000 words.

 1. Location check
  1. Go to the workplace

  2. Remove chair and check prerequisites

  3. Width of workplace: between 120-180 cm

  4. Depth of the table should be minimum 65 cm

  5. Verify if this is a height adjustable table. If it’s a normal table (not height adjustable), the height should be between 60-80 cm high

 Exceptions (when prerequisites not met)

‪If prerequisites are not met, contact your Spacewell Implementation Consultant to check if it is possible to install the sensor, perhaps with a different placement.

‪If sensors are not placed according to Spacewell guidelines, the accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

Overview exceptional situations with recommended installation

‪1.  Cable tray is deep and only has limited surface at the back. After agreement with Spacewell Implementation Consultant, sensor could be installed at the back of the cable tray

 2. Location preparation
  1. Measure 63 cm deep from the middle of the table

  2. Check for a flat surface of 3 x 1 cm2

  3. Check if the flat surface is level

  4. Check for any obstructions. If there are: contact Spacewell Implementation Consultant

  5. Clean the installation location with a dry cloth

 3. Sensor preparation: unpack
  1. Sensor unpack & placement indication

  2. Take sticker from packaging and stick it to the sensor plan or fill in the prepared excel (see Prepare batch import file before installation)

 4. Sensor preparation: tape placement
  1. Remove sensor from packaging

  2. Tape placement

 5. Sensor activation

Remove the plastic strip to enable the sensor battery

Instructions for installations on normal tables

Exceptions (when prerequisites not met) (normal workplace)

‪If prerequisites are not met, contact your Spacewell Implementation Consultant to check if it is possible to install the sensor, perhaps with a different placement.

‪If sensors are not placed according to Spacewell guidelines, the accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

Overview exceptional situations with recommended installation

‪1.  Table is height adjustable to a standing table (higher than 80 cm). See next chapter for recommended installation

‪2.   Cable tray is deep and only has limited surface at the back. After agreement with Spacewell Implementation Consultant, sensor could be installed at the back of the cable tray

 6. Sensor preparation: cap placement

Cap placement for normal tables: to install the cap on the sensor, just pull the strip, exposing the adhesive.

 7. Sensor placement for a normal (NOT height adjustable) table

Underneath normal table (between 60-80 cm high: vertical/ downwards + perpendicular to table (short side sensor parallel to long side table)

 7. Sensor placement for a height adjustable table

Sensor placement underneath table: the longest face of the sensor is parallel to the front of the desk and the lens facing downwards (long side sensor parallel to long side table)

With sensor cap installed differently (compared to normal tables), detection area is limited to 30 cm in front of the desk.

Placing a chair in front of the sensor will block it field of view and therefore alter the measurements. If the policy of the company is to place the chairs under the desk when using it in a standing position, we recommend to turn the chair sideways.

 Examples

Sensor installation Tips & Tricks

  • Don’t place tape on the side with the QR code

  • Place the eye towards the seating area of the workplace or facing down the ground

  • Aim the eye facing down away from strong heating or cooling sources (fireplace, HVAC)

‪What happened before  - don’t let it happen again…

  • Eye of workplace sensor very close against a metal stud

  • Sensor on a movable table

  • Sensor below a chair instead of table

  • Sensor on top of the table

  • Sensors installation in a “construction” site

Deploy sensors in Workplace Platform

On the back panel of the sensor, you will find the Device ID. Depending on the version of the sensor, the position of the device ID information on the sensor might differ a bit.

Where the sensor sticker will mention Device ID in format 58A0-CB00-0010-XXXX or E8E1-E100-010C-XXXX: add dashes after each 2 characters in Studio (to obtain 58-A0-CB-00-00-10-XX-XX resp E8-E1-E1-00-01-0C-XX-XX).

Add New Device in Workplace back-end Studio

  1. Go to your environment (https://studio.cobundu.com ) and log in

  2. Select the location, where you can manually add a sensor via "Add New Device"

Manually add device through location > devices > new: location is filled in.

‪Select Device Type "Browan Motion v1.3". This will automatically link the device channel.

Enter Device ID as serial-number with all capitals and including the dashes.

Enter a meaningful Device Name (eg customer_floor number_area).

Select a Location from the location tree if this is already known (automatically filled in if location was selected before adding new device).

Linked Locations is not relevant for this kind of sensor.

Selecting the correct Device Type "Browan Motion v1.3" should automatically set the Type to "Presence" and the Channel to “PIR” (see Advanced).

For more information on how to add multiple new devices to Studio, check out Configure devices (add, remove, import/export).

Quality Assurance

Next step is the Quality Assurance to make sure that the whole installation and configuration of your Motion sensor was a success. See Quality Assurance Occupancy/Utilization Sensor

Next steps

Once data is flowing into the Workplace Platform, Configure Space monitor

In case you encounter any issue with your devices, don’t hesitate to check Browan sensor troubleshooting guide
