VergeSense sensor installation
Difficulty: novice
Learning Objectives
After reading this article, you’ll be able to:
Install VergeSense sensor
After successful VergeSense gateway installation, you can now start sensor installation.
Place and set up up to 50 VergeSense VS-L302 sensor devices clustered around the gateway. The sensors will automatically set up a mesh network to connect to the gateway and each other.
From VergeSense Experience, it’s possible to install 45 magnet sensors per 8h (incl setup and cleanup), assuming all locations are available, see Checklist hardware on-site visit or installation
Unboxing - content
VergeSense sensor, with 2 magnets on the bottom
Bottom plate which can be used to install without the magnets
Bag with installation equipment depending on the ceiling type:
T-Bar clips (sized for 9/16” or 11/16” width) allow for rapid-mounting in drop ceiling configurations
Screw-holes available for wooden / concrete
Magnetic mounts for most T-bar systems and metal ceiling types
Preparation
As soon as the gateway connectivity has been confirmed, activate the sensors by pulling the plastic strip.
On the top of the device, an LED inside of the sensor will show all the colors from the rainbow and then turn off.
Please the sensors face up (as in the above picture) as close to the gateway as possible, to make sure an initial connection can be established. Placing the sensor face up allows confirmation that the sensors work.
Configuration on VergeSense Platform
As soon as the sensors are activated, link them to the relevant areas in the VergeSense platform as described in the VergeSense configuration guide.
It takes some time for the sensors to connect and send the first data to the VergeSense platform, so we found that time was optimized when we
first configure the devices on the platform,
then reboot* the sensors
immediately followed by the installation.
* sensor reboot methods are described in VergeSense troubleshooting (max 3 at the same time)
Activation
Power the sensor by removing the purple battery tab.
The sensor will automatically power on.
When first booting up, the sensor will cycle - Red, Green, Blue (0.5s each color) 3 times
The light will flash green once every 15s for 5min confirming connectivity.
There is no OFF position. Remove batteries to power off.
See VergeSense troubleshooting | Sensor LED Indicators for more information about different LED colors and the status of the sensor
Installation
In the moment of installation, make sure to reboot* the sensor. This will trigger the sensor and make Commissioning quicker.
* sensor reboot methods are described in VergeSense troubleshooting (max 3 at the same time)
Installation location
Refer to the sensor plan, in which VergeSense made a suggestion of where to place the sensors (see VergeSense installation location).
Installation direction
The sensor viewing direction indicated on the https://spacewell.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/492301 should be respected.
On the inside of the sensor bottom plate (which is installed facing the ceiling), an arrow is embossed as to show the sensor viewing direction.
Installation method
Ideally, use the magnetic placement. This allows for easy repositioning if needed.
If magnetic placement is not possible: it’s possible to tape or screw a sensor in the ceiling.
Bags (containing screws and other install material) come with the devices (see chapter “Unboxing - content”)
Exchange the Bottom plate (with magnets) for the reserve bottom plate that come with the devices, for easy installation without the magnets
Commissioning
As soon as the installation is done, inform your Spacewell Implementation Consultant when all sensors are installed. They will inform VergeSense through the Notes function on the https://spacewell.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/492301.
Concerning headcount on workplaces, only in this stage, VergeSense creates "workstation" areas.
Next steps
Configuration on Workplace Platform
Only after commissioning (per location) is finalized, data will be send to the Workplace Platform. See VergeSense configuration for more information about this next step.
Quality Assurance
After sensor configuration, follow the Quality Assurance Occupancy and Utilization Sensor instructions to make sure all use cases are covered.
