What is Kerlink iFemtocell Evolution?
Kerlink is a LoRa gateway that can be used for any Spacewell LoRa device to connect to the Workplace Platform.
Hardware & Network Requirements
Kerlink iFemtocell Evolution can connect to your network through ethernet or over 4G.
If you’re working with 4G, you’ll need to foresee a SIM card for this device: it depends on how many sensors will connect to the gateway, but overall / on average we assume 250MB of monthly data transfer, so we suggest to take a SIM card for 1GB.
If you’re connecting the gateway to your network using ethernet cable:
Open ports 80, 123, 443, 1700 in the firewall. These ports only need an outbound connection.
On the network, the devices must have HTTPS & MQTT/TLS access via different ports. Please find below the current “List of IP addresses for outgoing traffic” to know which ports to open.
A Dynamic IP is required.
Hub Configuration (only needed for 4G)
Prerequisites
Requirements to the computer that you will use for the configuration:
physical network input for ethernet cable (on mac we suggest to use an adapter)
securities can be setup in so many different ways, it’s not possible to describe system requirements… The customer company should either provide a laptop that can connect to the outside world and/or whitelist the kerlink page.
make sure your computer is connecting to the same network as the device
place the sim card in the device. You will hear the sim click into place / inserted ("tick") sound.
Activation Steps
1. Make sure you're connected to the device with an ethernet cable.
2. Depending on the gateway model, you have to visit another URL (XXXXXX = last 6 digits of EUI on the back of the gateway). For Kerlink iFemtocell Evolution, visit http://klk-fevo-XXXXXX/
Get your login from the Spacewell hardware manager.
3. In order to set up 4G, select "Administration" in the left hand menu:
Enable mobile network
Enter PIN code
Add Operator details
4. Look up MCC/MNC and APN values in 4G SIM Cards
5. Make sure to SAVE your cell phone config changes.
If the SIM configuration was not correct or saved, the toggle will jump to GSM disabled.
6. Reboot the gateway and unplug the network cable for the configuration changes to take effect.
7. The Spacewell Implementation Consultant can check on https://spacewell.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/492072 that the gateway is online (EUI in format 7076FF0064xxxxxx can be found on the sticker at the back of the device).
Hub Installation
If on 4G, connect the hub with the power cord to a plug
If using the ethernet functionality, make sure the ethernet cable is connecting to the network on which the required ports are opened (see above). On the device itself, there is only 1 ethernet port available on the hub, so it's easy to place the Ethernet cable.
Connection check
In order to check the connection of the hub on on https://spacewell.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/492072, please communicate the EUI (format 7076FF006404027E), that can be found on the sticker at the back of the device, to your Spacewell consultant.
If your connection was successful:
the LEDs on the device will be
1st LED will be solid green = power status = connected to power
2nd LED = can be ignored
3rd LED = blinking green = LORA activity/connected (sending packages to LORA) (blinking will be higher in frequency once sensors installed)
→ To see if a hub is live ON the device, is only possible if all sensors are installed (operational mode), because then the 3rd blinking LED will be blinking more continuously
the indicator on the TTN platform will be solid BLUE which means that the gateway is connected to the LoRaWAN network and is ready to handle packets (Spacewell Workplace SPOC is able to check this based on the Board ID)
