Elsys (CO2) sensor installation

Elsys (CO2) sensor installation

Difficulty: expert

Learning Objectives

After reading this article, you’ll be able to:

  • Prepare your environment to start using Elsys

  • Install Elsys

  • Verify correct installation of Elsys

Elsys comfort sensors gather data for Humidity + CO2 + Temperature.

Find here the checklist for installation: Checklist hardware on-site visit or installation. Depending on below selected installation method, make sure to foresee double sided tape or screws (minimum 2 per device).

Prerequisite: Gateway

Elsys connect over the LoRa network. Make sure you install your LoRa hub before installing the sensors (check out LoRa Gateways, Hubs installation guides for more information).

Sensor Installation

Preparation

Check if locations apply to prerequisites

  • chest-level (1m60/5.25 feet), preferably next to a light switch or HVAC control unit

  • not over a heating body or in direct sunlight

  • not behind a cupboard, a large presentation screen, ...

Indicate on the Prepare your sensor plan where to place all sensors, incl. where the sensor placement deviates from this normal procedure.

Batteries

If 1 sensor (or just a few) is purchased, the batteries are IN the sensor; they can be activated by pulling the tab.

For larger quantities, the batteries will be packed separately in a plastic tray (2 batteries are needed per sensor). 1 tray = +/- 75 batteries

Installation

1. Remove the back panel of the sensor with a small screwdriver.

Keep the back panel and the sensor together, since the sensor ID is indicated on the back panel!

2. Install the batteries. The ERS CO2 requires one or two AA batteries. The battery type is 3.6V Lithium Battery (ER14505). You can use one battery, but it’s recommended that you use two for optimal performance and battery life. Use battery slot A if only one battery is used.

Using batteries other than the ones provided may result in loss of performance and battery life, and also damage to the device. Dispose of properly, observing environmental protection rules.

3. Mount the back panel on the wall using some of the six mounting holes: there are 6 points where you can set a screw, mount using at least 2 screws. Alternatively, it can also be mounted using adhesive tape.

This device must not be placed near any louver, air vent, or other places exposed to fresh air (e.g., windows, door openings). Such placement will give false CO2 values.

4. Attach the sensor part to the back panel.

Sensor configuration (optional)

All sensor settings can be configured via a smartphone application with NFC (Near Field Communication)

NFC Configuration (optional) (Android phone with Elsys app needed!!)

  1. Download ELSYS “Sensor Settings” application from Google Play and install it on a smartphone or tablet. The device must support NFC.

  2. Enable NFC on the device and start the application.

  3. Place your device on top of the NFC antenna on the sensor.

  4. Remove the device. Current settings will be displayed in the application.

  5. Use the application to change settings

    1. Change the Timebase from 300 to 900 Sec

    2. Change the Motion configuration from PIR:Count to Off

    3. ONLY FOR USA: Change the Frequency plan under Version 2 features from "3 EU868" to "4 US915"

  6. Quickly tap the device on top of the NFC antenna to give the new settings to the sensor. Make sure that the application confirms your new settings.

  7. Wait for the sensor to reboot (5 sec), indicated by the LED flashing. Sensor settings have been updated.

Deploy sensors in Workplace Platform

On the back panel of the sensor, you will find the Device ID (format A81758fffe0xxxxx). This is the ID to use to assign the device to your tenant and do the location mapping in Studio.

Add New Device in Studio

  1. Go to your environment (https://studio.cobundu.com ) and log in

  2. Select the location, where you can manually add a sensor via "Add New Device"

Manually add device through location > devices > new: location is filled in.

‪Select Device Type "Elsys ERS CO2". This will automatically link the device channel.

Enter Device ID as serial-number with all capitals and including the dashes (format A8-17-58-FF-FE-XX-XX-XX).

Enter a meaningful Device Name (eg customer_floor number_area).

Select a Location from the location tree if this is already known (automatically filled in if location was selected before adding new device).

Selecting the correct Device Type "Elsys ERS CO2" should automatically set the Sensor Types and Channels to "Temperature, Humidity and CO2" (see Advanced).

For more information on how to add multiple new devices to Studio, check out Configure devices (add, remove, import, and export).

Quality Assurance

Next step is the Quality Assurance to make sure that the whole installation and configuration of your Elsys comfort sensor was a success.

On the live floorplans (for example in touchpoints Workplace web (Go) and The Workplace App), as well as in Workplace back-end Studio’s Sensor Management, you should see values for each sensor that is linked to a location.

With a thermometer, you can benchmark the (temperature) values from the sensor. Admittedly, humidity is more difficult to check.

The screenshots in this chapter visualize the results on Live Floorplan > View Temperature/Humidity/Comfort/... (depending on the kind of sensor installed) and in Studio’s Sensor Management.
